In a project spanning over three years, I assisted with the major revision of a popular elementary Bible curriculum for K5 through grade 6.
This elementary curriculum consisted of several products:
- A teacher’s manual — Lecture material, discussion prompts, classroom activities, assessments, read-aloud stories, an annotated facsimile of the student workbook, and a hymn curriculum
- A student workbook — Student exercises that interact with the Bible text, a Bible verse memorization program, and hymn curriculum
- Extra teaching resources bundle — Lesson presentations, editable assessments, downloadable artwork, music recordings, printable coloring sheets, and downloadable story art
- Picture cards (For K–Grade 2)
Major Goals for This Revision
- Maintain the existing scope and sequence for each grade while expanding existing content
- Update the pedagogy to reflect current educational standards
- Use Webb’s Depth of Knowledge to create and sequence learning objectives
- Improve the curriculum’s compatibility with popular Bible versions, including ESV, NIV, KJV, NKJV, and NASB
- Make the teacher’s content clear, accessible, and adaptable to multi-day teaching schedules
- Maintain continuity for existing customers to transition easily from using the previous edition
